CHASING & REPOUSSÉ

Three-day workshops in the traditional techniques of chasing and repoussé, taught by Florence-trained jeweler and metalsmith Davide Bigazzi. Held in his Menlo Park bottega and limited to five students.

Learn from Florentine Jeweler and Metalsmith Davide Bigazzi

Davide Bigazzi specializes in the traditional techniques of chasing and repoussé, drawing on his Florentine training and decades of professional experience as a jeweler and metalsmith.

The three-day workshops are held in Davide’s bottega in the San Francisco Bay Area, at Allied Arts Guild in Menlo Park. Each workshop is limited to five students, allowing for close instruction and a pace suited to each participant’s experience and interests.

Over three days, each student develops an individual jewelry or metalwork project while exploring the techniques of chasing and repoussé. Davide works closely with each person throughout the process, from preparing the metal and selecting the appropriate tools to developing the design and finishing the piece.

TOOLING AROUND

This three-day workshop begins with a full day devoted to making chasing tools. Students learn to forge, shape, harden, and finish six tools, including traditional forms used by Florentine metalsmiths for generations.

During the following two days, students put their new tools to work while exploring the techniques of chasing and repoussé. Davide guides each person in creating texture and dimension in metal while developing a useful set of tools to take home and continue using.
